Xavier University of Louisiana Expands Partnership With the U.S. Coast Guard

Filed in HBCUs on October 9, 2020

Historically Black Xavier University of Louisiana has announced an agreement with the U.S. Coast Guard to optimize outreach and engagement efforts and synergize the Coast Guard’s overall civilian and military officer recruiting effort. This initiative will provide tuition assistance to Xavier students as well as research opportunities for faculty members at the university.

The College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative is a fully-funded scholarship program, which may pay up to two academic years of college tuition, books, and essential supplies for full-time students. While enrolled in school, a CSPI candidate is enlisted in the Coast Guard as a non-petty officer. In addition to the full tuition, students receive full pay, allowances, entitlements, and the benefits of being an active duty member of the Coast Guard.

“We are so pleased to join the Coast Guard in this effort that will support the guard’s persity goals,” said Reynold Verret, president of Xavier University of Louisiana. “Cultivating top talent from Xavier is one of our top priorities and this is in direct alignment with Xavier’s mission and who we are. Xavier students understand the call to service.”
